What is technically called a "Thinned planchet". This was of an area on stock plate rolled too thin, edge area perhaps. See that weak strike because of not enough material to force into device when struck. Nice addition David!

Looks like a thin planchet coin. Thin on the thickness area for the bust and the top of the reverse. Nice find. You could probably set it between two normal cents and show that edge area and get a great image.

Coop I could do that actually. This was a great buy and I bought it for 1.00 at a coin shop.

The coin shop probably thought it was not a real cent. I bought an Ike dollar that was an incomplete planchet with three clips on it from a coin show. They had it marked $14 because they thought it was faked. (it wasn't)

Yeah, that's most likely why I got it for so cheap. Coop, you got a great deal on that Clipped Ike dollar. I did see one fake error coin at the shop. It was a 1970 Lincoln Cent that weighted 1.60 grams, but it was because it was dipped in acid. It lacked mint luster and had a bubbley appearance. I didn't buy the acid dipped cent of course because I knew it was a fake error.

Punched out of rolled thin stock. I've had an interest in light weight planchets for sometime. Been researching off and on for the lightest rolled thin US cent recorded, but unable to find any official records on the subject. Thanks, Doug. Adding: When evaluating over and under weights, you have to consider the possibility of the mint handling foreign coinage. Meaning rule out possible punched out using wrong stock or struck on stock meant for foreign coinage. See nothing close at this time.

Thank you spruett001 and Halo1st. Halo1st, you have a great point. I should check to see if it was struck on a Foriegn planchet. But in this case, it wasn't.

Thank you jbuck! I got it at a coin shop for 1.00. It was a steal for the price.
