I'm going to be sending this coin out for grading/authentication soon and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea if it is truly a 1856 Flying Eagle cent or if it's a fake. Thanks!

Surfaces and rims look very odd.

Why do you think it's fake? Just curious. I know the background looks kinda funny but I compared it to some other Flying Eagle cents I've got and the background on the front of the coin looks similar to the ones that are common dates.

Here's your coin to compare with a real one I found using US Coin Facts on the left side of CCF page.

Suspicious areas to me are the two sprig like leaves below C of CENT and T of CENT, the wobbly looking N's in ONE & CENT. ( Reverse ) The mouth looks more open on the eagle in the coin in question. The date looks a bit thicker, the serif on second S in STATES look quite different as well as the serif in the C of AMERICA. The feathers on the Eagle also get pebbly in areas where it just doesn't make a sense for the area of wear. ( Obverse )

Nothing about this coin looks right to this untrained eye.

I'm no expert, but the flower petals above the "O" and "E" in the word "ONE" on the reverse look off to me. They almost look like bells on the coin in question. Also the orange peel effect in the fields look suspicious.
If it were my coin though, I'm not sure I'd have noticed anything unless I had an authentic one to compare it to....mostly due to my inexperience.

I vote fake; don't waste your money attempting to get it authenticated and graded.

I also tend to fake. It's the dancing rounded letters used on the reverse instead of the sharp ones one should expect, it's the fact that somehow the obverse is AU/MS while the other side seems very worn and normal coins don't just wear off at only one side, it's that the background of the obverse isn't smooth but seems cast instead of struck. And there's more, but a lot has been mentioned already.
