Is the chin on this Lincoln Cent an error? It looks to be something like a double chin:

I tried getting a clearer pic, but with an iPhone camera and a loupe, that's the best I could do. So, you think after it left the mint it was damaged?

To me, it looks like a Die Chip.
Errers and Varietys.

It does look like a die chip. But what do I know? Not much. Still learning.

I'm also still learning. I guess if it's a die chip then it isn't worth any more than a normal cent.

Looks like a die chip and a nice one. I have not seen that one. It should have a premium,a few bucks anyways.Nice. John1

Ok, thanks for the input. I guess I'll hold on to it for now.

The coin is positively a die chip as I provided photos of that same variety as an Uncirculated RB in the forum several years ago. Now there are two known examples. If you look at the coin sideways, you may see a small lamination separation at the lower portion of the chin. Do you still have the coin?

By the way, it is not a PMD (Post Mint Damage) coin. That double chin was caused from the dies at the time the coin was minted in Denver. Look up my forum post in 2015 and you will see the twin.

I definitely agree with the Die Chip, and it is a nice one I have not seen before.

If I were you I'd hold on to that 1958D wheatie and then I'd invest $20-$30 in a coin microscope simply because of the fact that there is a 1958D doubled die that's worth big big money. There's also a D over S mint mark that's quite valuable as well. I'd look closely at the right side of the ' Y ' in in LIBERTY same for the mint mark. You never know you have hit the lottery — just saying!!
