I recently purchased this very nice William III 1697 Six Pence.

Unfortunately, it has gone missing in the U.S. mail. The seller sent me a tracking number, but the number was never entered into the tracking system. He went to his post office yesterday to check on it, but doesn't seem to have had any luck.

It's a shame, because it's a lovely coin, one I planned to add to my collection.

Just needed to vent a bit!

Get your money back plus the shipping you paid. Very nice coin but ...
Sometimes in cases like this they eventually show up.
I suspect your shipping /tracking is incorrect or the coin was never even sent. If you bought it on ebay open a case.
I'd be really disappointed too.

The seller has offered to refund my money.

I've asked him to check on the tracking, as I mentioned.

Sad that in this day and age mail goes missing when we pay a government entity to deliver. At least you bought from a decent eBayer and will get refunded. Small consolation though.

The seller said the post office could offer no help. He has refunded my money.

Too bad, I really wanted this coin!

I am assuming that this was a US - US post situation.
If it was me I would be very doubtful that the coin was even sent, too many " don't make sense " parts.
By taking it to the PO & paying for postage it has to registered in the system and would also be scanned as soon as it was collected from them, sounds like it was never sent and you were given a dud tracking number.
If he has a receipt for the postage paid ask for a picture of it, it WILL have the time & date info on it.
All of this said, it still sucks when you don't get your item.

What a shame, I dread to think how many nice coins have been lost in the system over the years.
