since I was so far off yesterday I want to give it another try. here I have a 1929 S that I pulled from one of my Whitman folders. after looking at PCGS Photograde, I'm going to say AU53-55. Edited by Tootallious 10/28/2017 9:48 pm

Sorry, these flashback pics don't really give us a true sense of the color and surfaces.

Much better pictures- like 1000X improvement! Looks like it was saved since it was mint state, looks like the wear happened as it passed through the decades in collections. Unfortunately, someone cleaned it during that phase - appears to be an older cleaning.

Thank you BadThad! It would have to be a really, really old cleaning! I just pulled it out of one of the Whitman folders that was in my grandfathers collection and he passed away in 1979. My mother has had the collection locked in a safe sense then until she passed in Febuary of this year. I honestly don't think any of the coins in the collection have been touch sense my grandfather put them in there over 38 years ago or perhaps longer.

Shock! with Bad Thad on this one, pretty much same reasons. Its received some hits, very few and could just be transport hits. Bags were used exclusively, a lot of jostling around would cause the coin contact marks and keep rim and high points from showing wear. I'm going to give it a slider tho, AU58, Slider. Meaning on the high side and moving up to a MS. damage/color/slight oxidation keeps it from a full MS60, Its tapping at a 59 tho. Nice solid strike on both sides as well, very nice coin!

Thanks Crazyb0! I'm having a hard time capturing the true color of some coins. I've been trying different types of light, sunlight, flashlight, ect... Sometimes the pics look just like the coin in hand but not very often. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

In that case, it may have even been your grandfather that "cleaned-up that old coin" before he stashed it. See the brown under LIBERTY - that's how the patina looked before it was cleaned. Shame, it should be a nice, even chocolate brown but it's not. Nonetheless, it's barely worn and a keeper!

BadThad, Thank you for the kind words!!
Anything is possible, he may have cleaned it and perhaps more. None the less, it is indeed a nice coin.
Again, Thank You!
