I have some wheat cents sorted out by year and mintmark. What is a great way to store them in containers by year and mintmark given there are over 100 different varieties in that sense.

If you have only a couple of each date/mm/variety and none are super-valuable, then how about a blank Whitman folder where you write in the specifics of each coin? If they are a bit more valuable or you feel the need to protect them better from the elements, consider putting them into 2x2s. If you go the 2x2 route, either purchase the self-stick ones or else remember to flatten the staples.

I have some in a book already and have dozens of each year and hundreds of the extra-common dates , like '44 plain and 57-D.

I think if you buy a full box it would be cheaper. They last forever and I am sure you will end up using them all at some point. John1

I prefer plastic tubes with labels on top. They are not that expensive to buy in bulk, and sometimes you can get used ones for next to nothing at your LCS.

I collect them in coin tubes stored in the tube boxes, I have three boxes one for "p", "d", "s". When I get 50 coins ,I then roll them and put them in coin roll boxes. I have a little over 30,000 Wheaties and still a few thousand to organize.

I also put them in plastic tubes with a label on top. Once a have a few tubes of a decade, I'll sort them down from there and use paper wrappers to roll solid rolls of a date/mm. Oddly enough, two rolls each of 1910, 1913 and 1919 piled up pretty quick, which surprised me. I have about 35 solid date rolls so far. S and D mm solid rolls are more difficult pre-1940.

I have a couple boxes of 100 plastic square tubes that I paid about $30 each (or about 30 cents a tube).
I have one box for full tubes and another for "working" tubes. A few years of very common dates (44, 57, 58) I have multiples tubes for. I tube 1940 and newer pennies except those in particularly great condition and have separate tubes for each year and mint mark. Older ones get put into 2x2's.
I like the square tubes as the don't roll off the table and they stack well. They take up the same amount of space as the round ones do.
I liked this so much that I did the same thing for my Canadian penny collection. I tube QEII pennies and put older ones in 2x2's.
I went to OfficeMax and bought a box of those round color dot stickers, they fit these tubes perfectly and I use a Sharpie to mark the year and mint-mark. When a tube gets filled I just circle the date and move the tube to the "Full" box, take an empty from there and replace the full tube in the "Working" box. When the "Full" box gets full itself I will buy another box of tubes.
I recently did the same thing for my nickle collection.
I used to use those ZipLock tubs with twist-on lids but went to the tubes as they are less apt to scratching and bagmarks.

Melt them all down and label each lump with the date. Bury them all in boxes and label each box with the dates. Try and fill as many Albums as you can and sell them. So many people are hoarding coins like those that someday none will be worth much.
