I've gotten one reply thus far, and not to doubt someone who has far more experience than I, however, I am still thinking this could be a new DDO

I do not believe that is Die Doubling. It appears to be Die Deterioration Doubling, with a little MD as well.

to the forum!

Take a look at how the doubling always goes towards the edge of the coin, not the same direction all the time. It is Die Deterioration Doubling caused from over using the dies. The more coins minted with a die, the more worn it becomes. When a die strikes a coin, the metal flows outward, towards the rim, so that is where the wear shows. The dies erode over time, just like a river bank erodes from flowing water.
I hope this helps explain what is showing on your coin.
