This coin sat in an album so I've never seen the toning directly! Man, what a sight!

The blue color is very strong in the obverse and purplish on the reverse. When not reflecting light directly, the color is dark greyish brown, so the blue tone is like a hologram.

I heard that this is due to cleaning, but this one still shows full bright luster. Any thoughts? Two other coins in the same album still show some luster, but they're just dull brown.

I checked the other dupes in a ziploc bag, and there's one with purplish blue but not this strong, and another with full red color starting to tone blue in some parts (with full, strong luster too). There's a 2 cent with slightly bluish color as well.

Guessing it has been heated in some way. I have seen Canadian pennies get the bluish tint from hot water.

I see. I inherited this coin from my aunt, never recalling she told me about heating her coins though, thanks for your comment

Edit: As Indonesia is a humid place and you did mention water, I think it may relate to the humidity

Yeah, I'd say more of environmental toning than heating

Probably not heated, things tone differently in the South Pacific than they do in the north. Likely just a product of the environment
