Hi - new to the forum. We have a coin that is not aligned. It is not a double stamp 1935, the actual image is not aligned vertically front to back so that when you flip the coin over, the buffalo appears to be tilted down app. -25 degrees.

Image uploaded. I did not manually tilt the image of the buffalo. Is this normal?

It's a rotation error - happens on all coins. Something about one of the dies loosening up during the minting process and rotating. Really not that rare. Did you flip your coin top to bottom or side to side?

It is rotated a bit, but this sometimes happens after a die clash. The angle should be more than 45 degrees to be a collectable. How much is 45degrees? Take a square and draw a line between to opposite corners. That is 45 degrees.

The coin was rotated top to bottom rather than side to side. Thanks, all for your help!

You can now spot greater rotated dies and find a good one or two.

I agree, it's probably about a 25° rotation. It doesn't really have a premium for that but, it's still interesting.

Nice coin. Here's more information on Rotated Die Error. http://www.error-ref.com/?s=die+rotated

A misaligned die is an entirely different type of error.

I am probably one of the few people who would pay a wee bit more for this coin just because of that little bit of rotation.

This was caused by a rotated die as already mentioned. To be very collectable it must be 90 degrees or more. No premium for this, but still a keeper because of it being a Buffalo nickel. Keep looking out there for Rotated Dies as these are the most commonly overlooked errors. Even the most rotated die errors are missed (90 degrees or more).

Ids ave to agree with Buddy. I'd also be one of the people who would pay a little too much of a premium for something like that.
