1999P Jefferson nickel.
I found this today going through nickel rolls from my local bank- updating my folders.

Is this a doubled P and doubling around the letters N GOD ?
or the dreaded Machine Doubling strikes again? :(

This looks like Die Deterioration to me. Notice how the doubling in the P ends up making a bigger P than the original. The edges around letters in the die are sharp corners. These edges wear away faster than the flatter areas on the die. As these areas wear they create a false doubling effect around the letters.

Hi,

That's exactly right! It is Die Deterioration Doubling.

Thanks,
Bill
