This quarter just looked very different than other quarters that I've seen. I looked up 1977 quarters as comparison but nothing seemed to match. The strike is deeper (deep rim), color more flat grey and detail is very sharp. They weight is within range of a normal quarter. Any ideas?

The comparison is to an ms67 quarter. I realize that my pic to an internet pic will vary. However, I've also compared it to other modern quarters that I have and it is much different (especially the tone and detail)

@tomasal, can you please indicate for which specific details your coin is different from the norm? Thx.

Looks like an earlier die state. No hint of die flow. Nice grade of coin for that old.

I checked around and no mention of a type 'D' quarter for 1977. Do you mean a Denver mint marked quarter?

I did a search for type h and found this link

Hope this helps.

Coop, I have read that doc before. Amazing comprehensive job on the writers part. I have been looking for the type h but have yet to find one, whereas the type b are fairly easy to pick up most dates.

You would probably need to find a quarter Variety collector for that. I don't have contact with one now. But the name Jose Cortez comes to mind. Here is a Web site that might be his:

You might check with him?
