Sure looks like that, but with the L so well-formed there's a seed of doubt in my mind. One would think some of that wood should have been crammed into the letter void and appear on the formed letter, whereas a lamination of the right shape (open on the viewer's right, still attached to the left) would shear off cleanly at the edge of the letter and be formed into it. Then the broken-loose metal falls away the moment the coin leaves the chamber.

Looks like it fell onto the planchet and the chance of it landing there happened and to the debris off with the coin after it was struck.

Thanks everyone. Good eye, seeing the grain Coop. Also looks plated, no?

Glad you like it EandV. I got lucky, it just popped out of a roll from the bank.

Wow, you got pretty lucky. I love it when the U.S. Mint screws up.

Possible plating if the edge shows no copper layer. That would gut the premium for this if it was plated. I agree, it looks too shiny.

Thanks Coop, I cracked open the 2x2. Strong copper showing. I guess it's just a shiny one.

Good for you. Unless they polished it..... One way toell if they did that would be swirl marks on the tops of the devices. Also weakness on the devices. But what I can see is that it doesn't look like this was the case. On the example above you can see the loss of higher devices details when this happens.

Yes, every once in a while I get lucky! Yes I see. The polishing is even worse than plating. Neither any good.

Thanks Jbuck. You probably saw my clipped planchet too. Both were in the same bunch, oh yeah an RPM too. It's like someone turned in part of someone's collection or something. Oh yeah again an Immigrant commemorative too. But anyway, thanks everyone for the comments.
