I bought this a while back, and sent it in on a bulk submission to ANACS, and the results were just posted. It's a VAM-22, which is a contemporary counterfeit. NGC does not consider it to be a countefeit, and will slab it as a regular Morgan.

So I have some options;
Return it
Submit to NGC
Keep it as it is
Sell it as what it is, and let the collectors of this type of thing pay what they will.

I'm in it Just <$50. What would you do?

So are all VAM-22's contemporary counterfeit?
If it does not fit into your collection and you have no interest in this type of collectable then (Sell it as what it is, and let the collectors of this type of thing pay what they will.)

NGC "doesn't think" it's a counterfeit? That's hilarious.

I'm assuming you already did the magnet test and the flip of the coin to listen to the differences, IF they passed those and NGC thinks it's good I'd keep it. if you like the coin .

It'll be a cold day somewhere very warm when I believe NGC (a company whose VAM attributions do not inspire trust) over the opinion of Leroy Van Allen (the "VA" in " VAM"). The NGC article does not address any of the issues Mr. Van Allen noted when he decided this coin to be counterfeit, and indeed denies the existence of casting flaws Van Allen found on the variety.

Is it worth revisiting? Perhaps. But Leroy Van Allen is still going strong and as far as I'm concerned it's not real until he says it is.

It further bears mentioning that NGC seems to place a disproportionate level of trust in "flow lines" as evidence, for a coin not known in Mint State....

Nor is it on the list of varieties they designate.
