Sorry, but I don't like the looks of that one.

Weight and edge photo might help.

I agree with moxking, that my first impression was it doesn't look quite right, but I can't point to anything that definitely isn't right.

The weight is correct, the reeding is correct, did you check the diameter?

I'd say it's probably been cleaned, as it just looks too clean for the amount of wear.

All in all, I'd say XF, details - cleaned.

Harshly cleaned. Not unusual for this coin.

Real? Can't tell from the pics.

I would suggest a harshly cleaned coin with the details of VF-35 / XF-40. Nothing natural about the coin's look.

Is that a rim bump at 11:30 (obverse)?

VERY difficult to grade this one.
The design appears to be far less affected by wear than the lettering.

The severely pitted fields, lack of detail in areas that should be struck up, and strange circulation pattern all had me a bit unsure about authenticity.

Knowing the edge and weight are correct would indicate a high VF or low Ef. But neither of those grades would change the value as this coin has been cleaned to within an inch of Yuck.

Unless you are buying this really cheap, less than $100 US, I'd run from this one.

Mox is one of the most knowledgeable forum members on commemoratives, so I would tend to agree.

That's not a $400 coin in my book.

You did fine if you were happy with the results. That's all that matters.
