Could this be real? I've never seen a divot like the one on this coin around the mint mark.

to CCF. It is a large date and zinc. Should weigh 2.5 grams. Around the mint mark are signs of zinc rot.

I haven't had a chance to put it on a scale, but it balanced out against a 1960 penny I found in the same roll. It does look like zinc rot though.

Using my highly scientific method (balancing coins on either end of a ruler). I just double checked it against two other copper coins... it is zinc #128548;

Has anyone ever heard of a 1960 penny that only weighs 2.5?

Only one that has been soaked in acid, or a silver one struck on a dime planchet.

The size, position and shape of the "8" look like a small date, but the flourish of the "2" also looks like a small date. Could be the imaging that makes the "8" look different. No doubt about the "2". Mintmark (if that's what it is) looks like it was burned somehow, unless it is zinc corrosion gone wild. I wonder if someone was trying to "create" a 1982D error and gave up?

question on 1960 penny cent

Acid dipped coin reduce the weight. So if the rim is missing, then that is probably what happened to it.
