to CCF. Does not look like another leaf to me. Maybe a die gouge or the remanence of a die clash.

Hi everyone! I'm about as new to collecting as I am to this Forum. I will get it figured out sooner or later so bare with me for a bit. My photo skills are worse than my knowledge of coins just to make things worse, but in person this quarter looks like it has another leaf. The shape is detailed yet there are no other leafs the same size? So does that mean no die clash possibility? If its a die gouge it makes sense but it sure looks like a leaf. Thanks for your opinions it seems this one can go back to the pocket change....Thought I had something for a minute.

I agree with John1. Either a Die Gouge or remanence of a Die Clash.

Looks like a clash. Probably where the eye was located:

That is what it looks like on the overlay.

This is where I might sound stupid, but if this is a die clash wouldn't there be evidense somewhere else on the coin? This hit on the lowest portion of the coin and the eye is a fairly high part of the coin. The image that was left has a fairly high relief and is well pronounced, shouldn't other features be apparent such as the beek? The reason I say this is in person the shape is very well pronounced.

The lowest points don't get affected during a clash? Because these devices are deep into the die. The fields are affted because they are the outside of the die. So where the outlines of the devices hit the other die, they are transferred to the other die. On a very strong clash you will see letters. But the highest coin devices, are the lowest die devices. (Dies are a negative of a coin)

Note the light direction this image. The light is from the top and the dark area on the top of the shield tell us that it is deeper into the die.
