I have found a 1952 D Wheat penny with the "S" in (S)TATES completely missing. There is no shadow. I have a I high powered scope looking for any type of mark that would resemble a strike of the S The attached photos may help. I am wondering if this is a mint error as I have found two identical pennies, same mint mark and date.
Any help I can get I will appreciate.

Probably the die was filled with grease preventing that device to be formed. I've seen this before: Joe. Good to see you here. (well I actually can see you) Nice to hear from you. (well actually I can do that either) (Hank Kimball logic from the TV show 'GREEN ACRES" from the stone age of TV) LOL Welcome aboard.
I want to thank every one for the warm welcome and the uick response. You have made me feel like I have been here for awhile. I look forward to learning from all of you.
