I'm wondering what might be the cause of the second profile.
And the void to the left of LIBERTY.
Any input is appreciated.

I'm not skilled enough to to answer as to what would cause the double profile or the void between the rim and Liberty, But WOW, that is an awesome rim Cud!

That is VERY unusual! A Cud to have formed before the cap and still show through so strong at the last stage is quite the story, two errors for the price of one!

Excellent find! Struck Through a Late Stage Die Cap and also has a Cud (Major Die Break). Did you find this in circulation?

No. And I'm glad, because it isn't a worn coin, just a weak strike and worn die. I'm afraid that in circulation, it would have gotten more wear.
Verdi-Care took care of the green spots below the date. Like magic.
I stopped into my LCS to share some research I'd done for the owner. (Nothing anyone else couldn't do, but he is busy and appreciates the help.)
I had a $20 bill burning a hole in my pocket when I stopped in. The big purchase was a 1921 Morgan Hit 50 in MS60. Then I picked out 10 from the foreign bucket, and this cent for $2. I went over budget as the total came to $21.70

This was one of the foreign coins. The brown stuff is lifting off with an acetone soak and may be stale chocolate.

As others have said, this cent was struck by a broken die covered by a late-stage die cap. The appearance of doubling is one of the many curious effects associated with capped die strikes.
