She's a beauty...1853, N-13 (LDS). Solid strike, good luster, no major distractions.

Saw it, fell in love with it, own it. It's in a TPG holder.

How would you grade this 1853 Braided Hair Large Cent?

Hmmmmm...

I'm on the AU/MS cusp with it. Nice coin!

For TPG grade, I'll say MS-62.

AU58 - personally, I think PCGS may have gone 62. I was adding a 52 to my album and noticed I somehow had 2 of them!

This is a case where the open fields are as important as the high points to separate between a 58 and a 62/63. In this instance the fields do appear to have a hint of center color change. So I'd be at 58, but regardless, I do like this example.

I'm afraid I agree with AU-58, through my impulse was 63BN or better. Exquisite coin.

Looks like I picked a good one. I didn't list the TPG to avoid grade bias, but some of you figured it out!

I ran this coin past a few EAC buddies, and they agree with the ANACS slab grade, a rare thing for EAC. I think 58 is not unreasonable.
