While searching through some silver that I have I found two coins, one was a 64 "Hot lips" dime the other was a 1960 D dime. The 1960 is pretty unremarkable except for the earlobe doubling. Looking through loop I noticed this convex line that ran perfectly with the line that is the outer ear flap. There are no gouges or scratches above or below this line which makes me think it accidently came from the mint this way. Any comments are welcome

to our house!

No way can anything be ventured by the tiny Pix, sorry. Need closeups of the area in question. It could be a "Doubled Die", It could just as well be Machine Damage (MD) or it my even be a well placed hit that makes it look that way....?

To me, it looks like a well placed hit.

I truly thought so too until I looked at it from EVERY angle with a loop. It still may very well be but the shadow cast makes it appear to be sharp when in fact it's actually rounded and smooth. Where could something like this be sent to?

@jim0815, if the area in the red circle below is what you are talking about, then I agree with @E&V that this is just damage that happens to line up with a part of the design. It is an interesting find and so may be worth saving to you, but the value of this coin is only 10 cents.

with Spence except the value part because of it being a silver dime.

Jim0815, you can always send the coin to me along with a $29.95 attribution fee and return postage. I will grade your coin at it's current status of XF45,normally circulated, and will also send you a type-written COA (Certificate of Authenticity) certifying your coin to be a genuine US mint issued 90% silver dime, and microscopically document the Post Mint Damage located on all points upon your coin. For an additional fee of $10 ($5 per side) I will further attribute your coin for any mint or striking errors as doubled dies, repunched mintmarks and a host of other errors. This will save you about $10 in the overall cost to send your coin to a Third Party Grading service to be told the same thing.

@spruett, yes very good point--I missed that fact. As a silver dime, it is definitely worth saving.

@craxyb0, careful of being too snarky bud. I think that we all agree that sending this dime to a third party grader like PCGS would be a waste of the OP's money.

As already suspected, it is a well placed coin contact on the earlobe. Not a doubled ear.
