I found this 1969 d Lincoln Penny. I noticed something different in the firs 9...Any idea about what it could be?

Any lamination on the coin field around it? It looks like you can see under it?

I agree that it looks most like damage after this coin was struck and that the top of the number six might have taken damage at the same time. This coin looks spendable to me.
