I know my mom received this bill at a red owl in MN in 1977. She took it home, called my dad, and he brought a holder home that night. It has sat inside that holder ever since. 100% from the mint, not chemically altered. Any idea on rarity and value?

Bills aren't my thing, Moxking and SteveinTampa can tell ya. That is a definite error, a whole plates worth perhaps?( plate is a sheet), would have a definite rarity count!

This isn't my area, either, I just happen to still be awake. I'm interested to see the knowledgeable responses.

Blank Back or missing 1st print are a dramatic and popular error. This happened to the entire 32 note sheet.
Notes printed in the 70's and 80's are usual and one dollar denomination are mostly seen. Uncirculated examples sell for anywhere from $200 and up. More if they are bookended by non error notes and higher denominations. A good candidate for a third party evaluation. Glad you got it into a currency sleeve.

Looks like a cool note if genuine. Submit it for grading! What's a "Red Owl"? Gas station or convenience store?

Yes, Red Owl was and I think still is a small/medium grocery store mostly in the midwest. The funny thing is, when my mom got home she noticed the blank backside. She called the Red Owl and the owner slyly said if she brought it in he'd replace it with a "real" one. She called my dad who said....ummm no. sleeved it that same day. The owner still (40 yrs later) lives in town. I may call him to find out whatever happened to the other notes he found.

A note from the same sheet sold in 2010 for $413. (HA.com)
In a soft market probably worrh two or three hundred dollars in 2017/2018.
If you like it, keep it. If you aren't in love with it walk it around a coin show and see what offers you get.
