Hi Guys- This forum has been a bit dead lately so I am posting a challenge. ID THIS COIN. About 1965 my grandmother gave me 3 ancient coins from my GG Grandfather William Augustus collection that was passed to her. I was the only coin collector in the family at the time. These three coins started my ancient coin interest after I returned from my DOD stint in the Middle East about 1972. One of them is my current avatar, and the third was stupidly traded off about 20 years ago. Please reply even if you can't find it. No- RIC 239 is very close but not it. Dane at Wildwinds could not list it when I tried about 10 years ago. Close to MS with patented silvering. A small bit of bronze disease at about 1 o'clock on the obverse. Probus was the silvering guru! 24mm and 4.43 grams. Please let me know if you can ID it, and if not, what do you think- Positive ID it and I will send you something nice-

@pendrak, I can't help you at all with the attribution, but that is a really nice coin--amazing detail!

Much better detail than normally seen, but the bright green spots on your avatar coin worry me that you might have bronze disease on this one. As you may have already seen, we have multiple Roman coin experts who hang out here--maybe just not on Friday evenings.

Very nice coins. I am no pro but, I think both coins should be conserved asap. What do the pros think about a quick dip in 100% pure acetone for starts? John1

I was able to find a match on the romancoin.info spreadsheet for Probus:
RIC V-2 238 (var reverse legend) Rome mint Not surprisingly it's a rare coin.
Mint state Roman coins are really nice, but the family connection makes these truly special! Beautiful coins, Pendrak!

A beautiful coin with an interesting, and special, family-ties story attached.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Probus was always a favorite of mine. But the Constantius follis ! Fabulous ! And as Augustus too ! While I have more than a few (5 actually) Constantius folles from Trier I am afraid they are all as Caesar. An extremely fine specimen If you are ever feeling stupid enough to part with it ...... Let me know !
I would not worry too much about the green. It's not BD just normal green that is common on billon coins. It can be easily removed but I think it lends a "venerable" look to something 1,700 years old. Magnificent .......
