The Type 2 recessed design was intended to protect the "Five Cents" and mintmark from premature wear, which it did well. Too bad they didn't protect the date at the same time!

At least you have a clear date on this one.

Now I had the time to get back here, sorry for the delay.
From my Red Book 2018 var. 1 is the common type, so this must be the type I have here.

Maybe there has been a misunderstanding; I might have taken "type" and "var." as meaning the same. My English is far from perfect.

But yes the date is clear, often it is not.

Regards,
Palle

Type and variety mean the same thing

Type/Variety 1 has the Buffalo standing on a mound
Type/Variety 2 the Buffalo is standing on a line

Here's a side by side comparison I think will help clear up the confusion.

US-Five-Cents-1913-D---Variety-1-Or-2-?

Prncoins, you have a 1913 Denver minted Type 2 Buffalo nickel.

Your English is fine no need to worry.
