I have sold a few coins on ebay but I think I have bought more than sold. Is December a good time to be selling?

Coins do seem to be more of a non-summer activity to me but I wonder if people are busy with Christmas activities, parties, and other shopping and visiting that maybe January is better (or all we are broke by then?).

Any long time sellers who can back up an opinion with facts on December selling?

I would think people will be spending money on other presents for the holidays..

You rarely get a collectible coin for a present. (At least not for me)

But then again, not too many people have extra money to spend in January.
Rest in Peace

You've already missed the smash season from the middle of November to the middle of December. For anything of value of $300 or more the auction houses are already nabbing all of our attention.

With Stacks, Heritage, and Great Collections all selling super stuff during that period it would be tough to attract attention in that better quality stuff range.

Especially if you are selling BIN on ebay. A lot of collectors have given up on ebay because most $100+ coins are BIN that is higher than the auction houses.

Finding honest to goodness no reserve low starting auctions on ebay often takes more time with few possibilities.

Ninety percent of what I would be selling would be coins under $50 each.

Decembers okay for a selling month. It is true a lot of people use their money on family gifts or trips to all be together for the holidays/New Years party trip so I wouldn't call it the best month by any means.

The listings are so manipulated now by the searches based off your settings that it's hard to tell if that's why sellers say their sales slowed because they won't play the 30 day plus return game and the 3 day or whatever guaranteed delivery like it's Amazon game or if the month is just slower. Other auctions have done real well lately so it may be more the games than the market.

The collectors that have truly given up on ebay isn't really mostly because of that. Most people realize listings are hit or miss just like if you go into a show or a shop but with the number of listings they'll usually be able to find something.

The collectors that have really left ebay in mass are the ones that also used to be casual sellers and had a bad experience on that front. There used to be a much wider selection and a lot of things offered by casual collector sellers as well, for a while with the changes it's been moving more to the bigger sellers having a larger and larger percentage of the listings for higher end items.

I think December is better for buying. The selling will pick up in January.

Certain types of coins sell particularly well leading up to the holidays with people purchasing gifts for Christmas... Generic gold, silver bullion, mixed lots, and sets usually sell the best in the lead up to the holidays...

January-April will be the best time for numismatic coins...
