i have a question. with Strike Doubling the die strikes the metal. it usually shift slightly creating a stair steps. would this be a correct statement. but what if there is no shift and steps are smaller then the original strike. would that mean the die is actually doubled itself. meaning from the way the die was cut. any information would greatly appreciated. what I am looking for is your opinions. this new coin is a pain to photography. I just opened a new roll. every one of the coins is identical.

work that lens rocky! I list stuff on ebay all the time and I use the camera on my phone. if you've got a more recent phone, give it a go. its tough to answer without seeing the coins.
Rest in Peace

Rocky, learn how dies are made, doubled dies are not strike related but a product of manufacture.

Crazyb0 I understand how dies are made. I used them the length of my career pressing wire and various connectors. I understand Machine Doubling. what I dont understand is if the die creates a shelf. why would it only double on most of the coin both side. yet triple died on Elizabeth II. its only tripled on II. how is that possible. I know that the mint presses are knuckle head. that information was explained by DBM he knows what the mint uses for presses. I know through having to learn about all presses. how the knuckle head works. see in my line of work proper pressing save million of dollars. well andy this is the best I can do for know. I had to take all my equipment apart.

Good eye Rocky! It will be interesting to see if others have coins with the same doubling.

nickelsguy thank you. I have found another one better then this coin. its on the 2017 toonie. I have found it on the two types of toonie for 2017, 150 year coins. I am going to wait. to see how long it takes for some one else. to find this really nice error. once they find the error. it will be very obvious.

This is where really good photos are necessary. At first, I thought this was just heavy Machine Doubling, but after examining your coin, especially the N of CANADA, Machine Doubling does not work that way...

You _may_ have a doubled die, together with strong Machine Doubling. I tend to look at devices with strong acute angles... this caught my eye in your photo, but a much better macro lens photo is necessary before I would stick my neck out any farther...

Actually, with clearer pictures, I wonder if this is not just Die Deterioration Doubling combined with Machine Doubling?

i have been checking some more coins. I found this coin. now I am using a 20 x microscope objective. so the depth of field is less than a thousands. these 2 shelves are at exact same position. I have black arrows pointing to the shelves. would this be die wear or die double. the 2 shelves are about 10 one thousands above the base metal any help greatly appreciated

Just to add a picture of the coin I have found. There is a clear doubling on the "C" of Canada.
