The photos of the 1989-D Lincoln Penny shows exposure of zinc on the date/United/America after strikes. Is this a common variety? Is there value to these varieties?

Also, is it common to see the "S" in States and "o" in of get shaved off?

Thanks!

To community.

Zinc rot, plating blisters, split plating around devices are all very commonly seen on these Zincolns and are considered damage and they are not a variety and they are spendable at no added premium.
Soon you will start noticing other issues commonly seen around the MMs as well, here is a good read provided by one of our experts Coop:http://goccf.com/t/168585#1550797

@RT, I agree with @chase007 that this is commonly seen and adds no value to this cent. Safe to spend!

What's hard to find is a nice example of these older crappy zinc issues, not a problem one.

The rarest Lincoln there will ever be in 2075 is a early 80's zinc that still exists.
