So I have some ASE dollars from when I was a kid that haven't been well taken care of. A year ago I put them in cardboard 2x2's which don't fit ASE's properly. Now they have started to develop rainbow toning around the perimeters.

So I was thinking of using a half dollar flip for a couple cleaned morgans in my collection. Only this time fold them the wrong way so that the cardboard side sits on the coin - waxed side is up and place them on a window sill. Has anyone ever tried this?

I knew you guys would want pics. These are how the ASE's turned out after a year with the waxed side sitting on them.

For those of you struggling to visualize what I'm talking about, here is what it looks like. This is a half dollar flip folded backwards over a morgan. Like the ASE's the outer portion of the coin is pressed up against the flip.

I haven't tried that, but I do have an ASE with hairline wiping scratches that I would like to add some tone to. I was thinking more along the lines of non-archival paper/envelope.

That is not rainbow toning. No color. Thanks for the tip. I'll try your method with a napkin inside.

I've had some success with kraft envelopes.

No I haven't heard or tried that one but it's working so congratulations. I myself have found that if you keep toned coins together it seems to help speed up the (slow process) of toning. I've also keep coins outside (in shed and even underneath. Have some that have been there for years (5-10) that I need to find and check!
