Some of these really take me by surprise as to what people have put on pennies. As I see all of these my mind starts to wander off in a weird direction.
What I mean is hard to explain. My lack of knowledge before this thread would never have had me believing there were 500 different
Lincoln Cent counterpunched designs known.
Just how many people do we as individuals personally know who have taken the time to come up with a design, pay to have a hardened punch made...realizing a lot of these were probably made before the internet and so it would be a big deal to track someone down with punch-making skills... and then stamped that design into a group of coins?
To the left of this page we see there are over 102 thousand active users on this site. So far none of them I am aware of have posted anything about them personally making a counterpunched coin design and going through with it (we do have one person who had some CCF coins minted).
And yet 500 different human minds, at some time, came up with the idea of designing a counterpunch for pennies and actually acted upon it. Granted its all speculation, but that means it takes over 102,000 people to find just one individual who actually goes through the process.
Does this mean chafemasterj's colleciton of 500 of these different designs represents 500 X 102,000 = 51,000,000 different people with only 500 making counterstamps?
Who would' thunk it?
