Now I'll remember to look for that particular 1942 missing the "I".
Thanks everyone for your comments--very helpful and interesting!

Some good pickups there, Kurt, well done.
Like the 1911 1d. Pics are very good as well.

well if there was 0.5% no mintmark that wouldn't be TOO hard to find but then 70% of them got melted down so it would be near impossible?

Eddy, yes--I don't figure I'll find one. I calculate 9,000,000 x (.005-(.005 x .7) = 13,500. Pretty rare!

That sounds like an intriguing, yet possibly expensive variety?

Here is one I bought some time ago. Was listed as a no mint mark, but feel it is a weak mint mark variety. Has a small dot where the I mm should be, but is damage free in that area at least.

Kurt, I am not sure of the current value as I picked them up a few years ago, from memory they weren't that expensive at the time but are relatively scarce, I believe.
There is also a variety where the I's are in different positions, on the obverse.
Spedward,
yes I have a couple left, not for sale or trade though.
Farnbycoins, I believe Triton has info on his page as well.

Nice looking coin there, Farnbycoins, I'll try and get some pics of one of mine for comparison, if you like.
