This seller has sold a similar type auction before. A HUGE lot for 26K+. Actually, the listing was quite compelling with $12,000 in face value, including over $800 Morgan dollars. I am a sucker for things like this, so I need to keep my distance.

It is quite funny that looking at "similar" items it appears/to me to be the same pix if not the same chest...oh, BTW, different sellers...hmmmmm? Annndddd, that appears to be an older style footlocker, ya know, with the tray on the top!

I think I saw this on Storage Wars And you are right Crazy - funny how other people use the exact same looking chest for auction pictures.

The seller must be really dumb to be selling a treasure chest full of unsearched silver, gold, and copper pre 1964. I still trying to figure out how the seller knows the coins are all pre 1964 without searching. For a ebay seller that gives money away, the seller sure has a lot of negative feedback.

Fun to see, but not to buy.

Nice how all the silver and older coinage appears to be conveniently on top for easy viewing while all of the cheap copper is at the bottom. Looks like the type coins must have came out of a dealers junk bin since all of them appear to have issues or are incredibly worn. I'd assume that a older hoard would have a wide range of conditions with some better coins unlike this listing.
Would an antique chest of this age even be able to be moved with this much weight in it without the chest coming apart? I'm not sure.

It's stated in the auction that the chest is already crated and on a pallet to be shipped by a trucking company FOB - hope whoever wins it just happens to have access to a forklift to get it off the truck, or or least off the trucks liftgate.

It looks like some coins from a dealer's junk pile on top and cheap copper on the bottom. Rather suspicious, as how the seller knows everything is pre 1964 without searching it is beyond me.

The listing seems to have been ended by the seller. My guess - it was really worth $12k, and he was hoping for a better bidding session. I will treat any listings front this seller a suspect in the future.

You buy an old storage locker one day at auction. Inside, you are AMAZED to discover a huge, antique chest full of silver and gold, so heavy you can't even begin to move it. Do you: A -- sort through it, or have a professional sort through it, looking to see exactly how rich you just became, or what a bum deal you got; or... B -- immediately list it on ebay with no reserve, possibly leaving a million bucks on the table and earning even less than its melt value Picking option B strains credulity well past the breaking point. It's very popular option with scammers, though. He knows exactly what's there, and exactly what it's worth. Probably to within a couple bucks. Essentially, there seems to be a never-ending supply of suckers out there who are willing to believe that sellers will throw away thousands or tens of thousands of dollars willy-nilly on a regular basis, and they all seem to find each other on the same scam auctions. Whether it's by the roll, mason jar, cigar box, or footlocker, almost nothing on ebay is unsearched.
