Yet another holiday pickup. Interesting toning in just the one spot on the obverse and reverse. Wonder what it came in contact with. The toning is much bluer than the pic shows. Thanks in advance.

MS-64. Despite the color, I think the toning detracts a bit.

Not really sure what's going on in the right obverse field. I guess 64 is right but don't feel strongly about it.

63. The toning is "torn 2x2 Mylar toning." The coin was in a 2x2 in a cardboard box for a long time, and the Mylar in the area where the toning is was torn on one side. The coin was probably dipped before being put in the 2x2, destabilizing the surfaces and making it tone faster.

Quote: The toning is "torn 2x2 Mylar toning." I've had a few coins that developed this kind of edge toning after several years in storage in a torn or ripped 2x2. I've always wondered how exposure to air in one spot can lead to near terminal toning, while leaving the entire coin exposed wouldn't cause this much heavy toning on the whole coin. Or maybe it would. I guess I've never left a silver coin sit exposed in a box for years.
