The basic monetary unit for China is the yuan, which is presently valued at 15¢ US - the jiao is a tenth of a yuan.

@CMJ, here is a little bit more info to help you with identifying modern Chinese coins in the future. The two left-most characters on the obv (above the YI JIAO) are the Chinese word for China. The literal translation for the first character is "middle", while the translation of the second character is "kingdom". Easy to remember because the downward stroke cuts the box in half for the first character and if you squint, it vaguely looks a little like a throne in the center of the box for the second character. Middle Kingdom = China.
