I think the last one was in January of last year if memory serves.

This confirms what most on here have been saying. Interest in coins peak during the winter and dies out in the summer.

This year I have more experience watching auctions. It seems to me that the higher quality coins come up for auction around this time of year but the competition for those coins is far greater than other times.

I think it's cabin fever that stokes peoples interest. It sure is cold out there. What's interesting is that it works the same way in the health club business.

Just a random observation from a year's worth of experience.

I think that may be a good guess. In northern areas, and the rainy west coast, people are definitely inside more during the winter.

It's the darkness of winter, too.

Maybe looking at shiny discs reminds me of summer. ;)

Studying or working on coins is one of the warmest of activities when you have cabin fever.

I agree. Here in Connecticut I am cooped up with no desire to go outside. What's left to do? Might as well look at coins.
Rest in Peace

Some of the very best auctions hit between November and February.

I save my coin money in September and October, unless there is something juicy.

I loose a bit of interest in coins this time of year. Tax time you know. I put all my tax type stuff in a pile almost all year long. Then about this time of year I sit down with the piles and start sorting, documenting, etc. Coins become the last thing on my mind now.

It's really cold here, plus I'm out of beer.

Just a thought, if you collected beer cans you'd never be out of beer.
