Been reading a post from 2013 about a pendant with a 1944 steel war penny. The woman never finished letting the forum know what came of the coin. I have just recently made purchase of what appear to be (2) 1944 Lincoln steel cents. The seller states they stick to a magnet and weigh 2.70 gm. Looking at the photo,s I see what looks like some very small deterioration to the steel on the outer ring edge. I have compared these to images off the internet and find all details of the coin to be exact without discrepancy. Fingers are crossed here they are authentic. have a look and tell me what you think. I should get them by the end of the week I hope. I know these can bring 75K in average shape each. Edited by Max695 01/03/2018 12:23 am

to the forum To have one would be a miracle, two you'd be walking on water. The Possibility that these are fake coins is 99.99999999%. The Chinese are great exporters of counterfeit coins, one mint alone turns out 150,000 coins a MONTH to the world market of all nationalities "rarities". Hope you bought them with option to return BTW, what is it, at last count there are 14 known 1944 steel cents Oh, and, sure do like those round rims...

Unless you are the luckiest person on earth I wouldn't quit my job just yet - Pretty sure there was only a few of them struck.

We have only pictures to look at. Even if we all were to say it appears to be genuine, STILL take it to Heritage or other equivalent professional numismatic auctioneer to confirm.
It looks like a 4th generation* struck fake to me. Most of the detail of Lincoln's head is gone.
* copy of a copy of a copy.
The 1944 Belgian 2 Francs (KM# 133) was made from exactly the same planchets as the U.S wartime steel Cents, by the U.S. Mint. 25 million of them were struck. First rate best quality fake 1944 U.S. Cents were probably made from blank planchets of the 1944 Belgian 2 Francs that had escaped from the Mint. This one is not of that quality.
There is the possibility that this is a fake over strike of a standard 1943 wartime steel Cent. Magnetism and weight will be identical.

Well thanks guys for the input. I was expecting to see no reply,s when I got on line today. I did buy through Pay Pal and if they do not fit the description of the add I can return for several reasons. 1 Counterfeit 2 Item not as described.Yes I understand the "too good to be true" aspect as well as finding just one would be astronomical. I was not aware of the Belgian type coin you mention. If it was Belgian what would be the difference fro the US you state same it is the same Planchet. All info welcome here. If this were and over strike of a 1943 steel would n,t you think they would use a better specimen. I have followed all lines and lettering of other 1944 images on the internet and they all fit with the wear patterns. The coins also have slight rust due to wear of the zinc plate. Yes the holders do hinder much of the details. I wouldn,t be surprized if they are fake but I would be dancing in the street to find out they are real. Yes I will have one checked out if all looks good when they arrive. If that pans out I will then do the other one.

Never mind I found it. 100% Fake. 282793250448He also immediately relisted: 282794554773There's no question he bought a bunch of them from China and is preying on unsuspecting people on ebay. I will get the new listing removed.

Max. Yes, lesson learned and it's always good to get the refund back. Not all buyers do as some never check them out.
