I know mint marks wander around a bit in its specified area on the coin from die to die but I came across this one today and don't know what to think of it. It's location seems accurate but it is turned almost completely sideways from the rest of the 41 S coins I had looked at.

Is this within the range of acceptability? Or is this an Alien dime from another dimension?

top coin is one in question, and the other a reference to what I think normal is.

It's what happened back in the days of hand-punched mint marks ... to me that is an interesting curiosity but not a worthy ... read valuable... numismatic find.

Keep it if it makes you happy.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

Believe it or not, the bottom pix looks weird to me!

One is turned 30° CCW, the other is 30° CW from a normal S marked coin

Its in acceptable tolerance, if it was 90° than you have something to talk about, like a horizontal S.

For this issue, repunched mint marks seem to be of more interest than a somewhat rotated one. Not sure why that's so. I like your find, as it's so readily apparent to the naked eye. Even if it carries no premium, I'd say it's a keeper regardless.

As I'm sitting at my computer reading this post while watching the new episode of X-files I like this option.

Wandering mint marks are a lot of fun, even if not valuable.

I had (3) 1941 S dimes and all 3 were different. These two were the furthest.

When you start looking for these oddly-punched MMs, you'll see them quite frequently.
