This is a very curious small coin from India, 10 x 15 mm, roughly rectangular, weight 1.30 g. The most unusual feature is that it is made of a folded copper sheet (folded twice, for three layers total). I have never seen a coin made of folded metal before. It may also be possible that it is not a coin at all, but part of a piece of jewelry etc. I will be very grateful for any help identifying this.

It is probably a seal, rather than a coin. Seals are usually made of lead, rather than copper.

It looks like some coins I have seen from Ancient India, but I know very little about these so I can't help you any further.

@arusa, do you mean the design elements or the folding of the flan? I have seen coins bent in half, but never a coin where the flan was folded over prior to striking.

There are coins on Zeno from Afghanistan and Iran made by folding over copper sheet like this.

Yes I see a somewhat similar but much larger (8 gram) folded copper coin listed from Qandahar, Afghanistan about 1700 AD at https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=129947

There is a very similar, larger (4.05 g) coin listed in the Zeno database from Bahawalpur as a square falus with a laminate (folded) planchet. It's attributed as KM Y-1 made from AH 1205-1281 (AD 1791-1865).

Here's the listing.

https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=96276

The photos for Bahawalpur Y-1 in the KM book don't look like this, but there is a note that there are several varieties and the shape can be "folded over."

The markings for the laminate falus in Zeno appear somewhat similar to me to those on the small coin in question here. So I'm going with an attribution of a fractional falus from Bahawalpur in this time period.
