I've been collecting coins ever since 1972--that's 46 years--and despite checking my change every day, I've never, ever found an Indian Head cent in circulation.

Until today! I was looking through my jug of change that had recently begun to overflow (meaning it's time to go to the bank), and there it was! It took me several moments to grasp what it was I was holding and looking at. But then my excitement quickly became palatable and it was one of those "Holy Cow" moments.

It's either an 1885 or 1886--the last digit is hard to make out. It's flattened and somewhat rubbed out, though if an expert were able to look, I think it might be obvious.

I've been trying to take a photo without any luck. Will post a photo when I have one. Yay!
Rest in Peace

Indeed!

Think about it: a coin minted 130+ years ago was still in service!
