I found this in my change last week. Words around rim are normal but on the wrong side for image i.e. the words that are supposed to be on the front are on the back and vice versa. The images are indented and backwards. I sent pictures to Heritage yesterday and they replied that it "Had no extra value". I think they are wrong and that is why I'm here. I went to a local coin shop today and got more info, it is .4 grams light and .1 mm larger than a nickel but not as thick either. Anyway, anyone have any idea what this could be? I forgot to mention the image alignment is off. I took the picture and flipped the coin over and the monument is at this angle. Any ideas? Thanks!

to the forum!

Heavily damaged. I would estimate the value around $0.05 IF you can get someone to accept it.

The images are backwards because another coin has been pressed against it. It is heavily corroded too.

It appears to be heavily mechanically damaged (vise-job) as well as chemically damaged (acid).

It is worth five cents at most.

If you can still spend it, do so. A nickel is worth more than nothing.

You can see evidence of a Monticello being impressed by the Jefferson reversed image bust. Seriously, you called Heritage about this?

Someone ground a coin smooth, then impressed images from other coins by hammering a nickel sandwich...of course ya'all know just WHO would do that now...

To CCF! Just PMD (Post Mint damage). Worth 5 cents, but keep it if you like.
