I found this in a OBW roll of 2014 P Jefferson nickels I bought on ebay. This isn't Post Mint damage. They have these known abnormalities in the doorway that appear to be raised tiny circle. As of today, the coin experts still don't know what caused this abnormality and it will remain a mystery until they find out what caused it. Here are the links if you want to learn more about them. If you haven't of this error before, please read the links provided in my description.

Oh no, aliens! They have been making crop circles the whole time... just kidding of course! Anyway getting back on subject, those raised rings were thought to be caused by Lathe Lines, but they don't completely match up so it's caused by something else. I have three Nickels with this "Die Ring" that I pulled out of a OBW BU bankroll. This would definitely qualify as a UFO Varietie on doubleddie.com (John wexler's website).

I found one of these a while back. I forget now what was thought to have caused it. But I'm pretty sure that BJ made a call. It may have been lathe lines.

You're welcome. I figured I would share it as it is very interesting and strange how this abnormality happened. This was pulled out from a fresh OBW BU roll of 2014 P Jefferson nickels.

That's awesome that you found this a while back. Lathe Lines was the only possible explanation to why this had happened. Although, they still aren't 100 percent sure what caused this.

Just dug a little in the archives - mine is labeled lathe lines. To be honest, I would have expected a series of rings I suppose. But whatever they are, UFO can apply.

I think I'll label mine as "Lathe Line Ring". It is a very interesting learning piece and very cool. I will keep these in my collection.

When I first saw your tag, I thought that was a good one to have. I didn't even know about varieties and error coins (aside from the 1955 and 1972 DDOs). After seeing things that coop and others were posting, I got excited: more things to look for! So I'm glad that the tag fits. There are a couple other clever tags to watch for. Fistfullofdirt is another.

I thought of this name tag when I was signing up when I couldn't make up my mind about which one to go for. I am glad that you are learning new stuff everyday here. Fistfullofdirt is a very funny and clever name tag.
