Please someone help me, look at my pics and tell me if you would consider this doubling. My eyes don't do small things well. Look closely cause I could not get a very good pic. The U is really strong.

I may have answered my own question, only this is not a MONROE this is an ADAMS. This partial article was on CONECA'S website.

March 10, 2008 -- Gordon Barnes of MA reports finding 2008-P James Monroe dollars with edge lettering that appears crisp and clear (or what one would consider normal) on some coins while others display "coarse" lettering with some doubling.

Doubled edge lettering will not look like the close spread doubling of a doubled die. The edge lettering is applied while the coin is rolled through a press(not a two die press that is used for striking coins). To get doubled edge lettering, the coin has to be run through this process twice. Chances of the lettering lining up with a close doubled die-like spread is pretty small. All of the doubled edge lettering I have seen pictures of has obvious separation and spacing.

I am not 100% positive, but I believe that this is the equipment that the Mint uses for edge lettering-

It's not a doubled die, if that's what you're asking.

You may be looking at the pressure ridge that often surrounds each letter.
