Long story short, I have been hunting down a fairly tough-to-get coin reference book for well over six months now. After dealing with two copies lost in untracked international mail, I finally found a reasonable (sub-$60) copy through a New York-based bookseller. I didn't want to take any more risks, so I paid extra ($6 and change instead of $3) for expedited shipping of 6-8 days. This was on 1/2. I got the shipping confirmation email two days later with a USPS tracking number, but as of this writing, the tracking STILL shows "Label created, not yet in system." I'll be reaching out to them shortly to hopefully give this process a little nudge, but if Friday comes and goes with no book, would I be justified in requesting a refund of the extra shipping charge? It was supposed to be at my house no later than Wednesday... at T-minus 2 hours until the post office closes for the day, there is absolutely zero chance of that happening. Clearly, this book must be cursed!

I'm seeing issues with the Post Office as well. I'm blaming it on the holiday season not the seller as USPS tracking information is sketchy at best over the last week or so.

As long has you have been waiting to get this book I would not do anything to impede it's arrival by ticking off the Seller. (Remember also, that the weather the past couple of weeks in the North East has not been very cooperative.)
Once you have the book safely in-hand you might then contact the Seller directly asking for a refund of the 3$ expedited shipping charge that you paid extra for.
If you are still unhappy, you can then leave appropriate feedback.
Bottom line is get your book before rocking the boat!

You've lived without it for awhile. Patience is a virtue oft returned.

Steve, according to USPS it hasn't even been put into the system, not picked up at all. No scan was done yet to do so, the message you have isn't a scanned parcel. You best contact sender asap.

I've had packages suddenly appear at my door the day after they were still "not yet in system". It's worth an inquiry to see if they have actually handed the package to USPS. If they say they have, give it another couple of days to see if it finally registers at USPS or arrives unexpectedly. Don't ask for a refund just yet.

Be patient. I had a trackable 1st Class package sit in Detroit for 9 full days last month before finally being delivered less than 90 miles upstate.

Update - seller responded to my email, maintained that the package was shipped immediately and that the tracking issue was "very unusual". It was shipped via UPS MI, where UPS takes it to the local USPS distro center. Tracking shows that it wasn't accepted from the bookseller until two days after I inquired about it, but at least I have tracking and confirmation that it's arrived in my state. Fingers crossed!
And yes, after sleeping on it, I don't care about an extra $3 as long as I don't have to go another six months without the book!

I don't like Sellers that lie. He may have printed the shipping label "immediately", but he darned sure didn't SHIP the item immediately! The shipping history speaks for itself.
Besides, I would take "expedited shipping" to mean either First Class Small Package Service (if 13 ounces or under) or Priority Mail if over 13 ounces. Sounds to me like you got something akin to Media Mail.
When it's all said and done ask for the expedited shipping charge to be refunded. You paid for something you didn't get!

Sometimes you get sucked up in the system and can't do anything about it. We've all been there.
