Just curious on these pieces being auctioned off by Cayon Auction House in January 2018. What I find interesting is that in my new book "Forgotten Coins" in the World Counterfeit chapter I listed those Napoleonic counterstamp issues as possible emergency money issues as some pieces have the same dies (i.e., based on die break comparisons) as the regal types in silver. It seems possible that the Duros for example could be emergency issues in periods of low silver inventory. If these die makers could make something like this why not debased Duros? BTW I have recorded silvered brass, silvered bronze, debased silver, German silver type (Cu/Zn/Ni) and copper which probably lost its silvering. Just asking realeswatcher ... fist time I have seen these and the Mex. War of Independence type copies. Incredible pieces!

John, I haven't looked through this much (c'mon, this is INC week, one at a time!). Those Girona duros and the various emergency local 8R-size pieces aren't really my specialty... but yes, some of the assorted "counterfeits" Girona pieces do seem virtually the same "fabric" as what is considered authentic. There ARE plenty, of course, which are clearly crude CCs.

Will note that Cayon was kind enough to send this hardcover cat. from Spain via FedEx Intl. Priority (arrived today), which I'm sure wasn't cheap. If you buy any coins, though... it will be 2 months until they're sent so that the good King Felipe can bless them and receive his renderance.

These are out of my price range but this is the first time I have seen a major auction house exhibit and explain these crude issues being minted and released during these tough times in Spain. In my mind since these CCC Duros have the SAME dies as the silver Duros I just thought these may have come from this Manufactory house - AS WELL? I like that term manufactory ... LOL.

Sure I like to read the gold signatures on these beauties ... but I am now retired and not that rich (i.e., 4000E +).

I fully expect, John, that you bought this piece just to test over and over again:

Looks like it was designed by the great artist that did the New England shilling
