Hello all, I hope someone can help me. I have a 2009 ultra high relief Gold eagle I inherited from my late father. My question is how do I differentiate between the different signatures or tell exactly which coin I have. Try as I have over and over I can not for the life of me find anything on the web. Thank you Edited by hdmacguyver 01/10/2018 08:17 am

hd Sorry for your loss. What a nice coin to inherit. What "signature" are you referring to?

I'm guessing the signatures you're referring to would be on the label of a slab (the rectangular plastic case, indicating the grade and certification from a third party, such as NGC or PCGS). Presuming your coin is not in a slab, but rather a round plastic container, or a folded cardboard or plastic holder, your coin is "raw" and would not have a signature.
Edit to clarify: Not all slabbed coins have a signature on the label. As others have noted, pictures would help us understand what you have.

Hello, Thank you for any and all help on this topic. What I meant by signature is whether it is Moy, St.Gaudens, Mercanti early release ect. I know the difference between MS,PL etc. when I look at them on ebay the range of value is in the thousands and I cant find any info on the net to see which one I have

Thank you for the pics you added to the first post. St. Gaudens is the designer of the original coin (double eagle), minted from 1907-1933. Moy and Mercanti are among those whose signatures appear on the labels of slabbed coins. An example for Moy looks like this: Your coin is "raw" (i.e. not slabbed) so will not have signatures. It is worth at least bullion value, the intrinsic value of the gold content -- one ounce currently over $1300. Because it is not professionally graded, you cannot expect to get what you see for graded/signature prices. You could get it graded, but it is too late for signatures, and your odds of a perfect 70 grade are less than half (just looking at the population reports, and the differences between 69 and 70 are impossible to see in photos).

Alpha, Thank you for clarifying, I do have one last question and excuse me for my lack of knowledge with these coins. When a coin gets graded what determines the signature it gets if any?

Quote: When a coin gets graded what determines the signature it gets if any? The submitter, if you send in big enough submissions you can get special labels for them especially if you procured a deal with someone to sign them.
