Nice work! I need to budget now too with other upcoming expenses, not to mention outragous gas/grocery prices.

I made a vow this year to sell the coins I no longer collect in order to upgrade what I currently collect.

We really do not have a lot of extra money at the current time so I spend $20-50 a month when I can. If I keep my purchases below $20 each time I go in then she has no problem with it, unless I go more than once a week. So because of this I have set aside a certain about of money that I just rotate into searching rolls. If I get a box of pennies for $25 and end up taking 95% of it back then I am only spending about $3 per visit. When the kids are old enough and out of the house then I plan on spending a lot more, but that will not happen for a looooong time.

The wife read this and said I forgot the $30. in Wheat cents. I bought the wheat cents, Indian Heads & Notes for her collection. So I think those can be deducted from my spending and add it to hers.

Seeking: Her coin & Note addiction cost $163.38

It is nice that your wife collects to, sometimes that makes it easier to justify buying something more often. My wife has been in the banking industry for almost here entire life so collecting the thing she deals with everyday is not a thrill at all. I did luck out this year and some how got her started on Mercury dimes but even with that she is back and forth on them. To her, I personally think she is glad that I found something that I like and encourages me to keep going.

Great idea to keep track of all your purchases by series! I should really do something like that, but I'm afraid it would show how bad I am at keeping within my budget.

I have too many hobbies! I play pedal steel guitar, collect gemstones, collect mineral specimens, and now my copper penny obsession. My wife just says,"at least you're at home and not out drinking the money away!" What a woman!

I always tell my wife that I'm not really "spending" money on coins because, if I buy a coin for say $10, and it's worth about $10 dollars, then I haven't really spent the money. See honey, I still have the 10 dollars only it's in a different form. It's not really gone. So far she has not been convinced with this line of reasoning.

My wife feels the same way as yours. I think she finds it easier to buy shoes with $10 than with a coin worth $10.

No budget. I buy what I think I can afford and if I look and don't have enough, that is that. No budget at all.

I've tried sticking to a budget but no success yet. My husband thinks I'm crazy to spend money to buy money.
