Using a good balance may help to determine whether this is a blank planchet vs. a copper slug. Often times schools have this sort of equipment in their science department, so if you, or your nephew, or your cousin, or whoever is in school, they might be able to weigh it four you. In the meanwhile, it probably is worth putting aside until you have more information. If you are storing your coins in 2x2s, this is a good candidate for that. eggplant New Member United States 20 Posts	Posted 01/12/2018 9:48 pm Great find, fun to study and keep as a souvenir but the flip side scratches squash any resale value. It appears to be a 1982 or earlier edge rolled unstruck Lincoln Cent (aka type 2 planchet), 95% copper 5% zinc spec weight 3.11 grams. Could also be 1982 or later 2.5% copper 97.5% zinc 2.5g, not sure if I see zinc core. The U.S. Mint switched metal composition during the 1982 manufacturing run. PS - you can build a crude seesaw balance scale using a pencil fulcrum and a popsicle stick (or 6-inch rule) lever, then weigh your planchet against pre-1982 and post-1982 cents for a quick and dirty answer.
