Nice find!

These are called Interior Die Breaks or Die Chips depending on the size. A small piece of die will chip off which will cause the coins struck with it to have a raised image to match the missing metal on the die.
Here is a website that lists known example of it: http://cuds-on-coins.com/Lincoln-ce...s-1950-1958/

Cool - A "hornets nest" die break. Mostly found in between the 1st and 2nd pillar. On the right side of the memorial isn't that common.

The extra metal is a wrong term. All planchettes have the same amount of metal. The metal is distributed differently. So a Die Cud, mint mark, die crack or higher rim will not change the weight of the coin. The metal is spread around differently. Same weight if it is with tolerance.

Tip of the day: When you are unsure of the spelling of a word, try this: Use your cell phone on lets say 'Google' with the microphone setting. Say the word and the phone will show you the correct spelling and meaning. A lot quicker than looking it up or using a electronic dictionary.(finding that maybe hard to do sometimes)
Rest in Peace
