Hello all, I'm new to this forum, but it seemed like a good place to ask about the FMV value of my coin. I had it graded by NGC and it's cert number is 2774969-001 I had a heckuva time trying to figure out the image uploader, otherwise I would've put a picture on here... I sell a good bit on ebay, would this be the best place to put it up for sale? And, what is the coin worth these days? Thanks! |

 I can't put a specific value on it, but I probably wouldn't sell on ebay. It may deserve being consigned to auction with a company like Heritage Auctions. In Memory of Crazyb0 12-26-1951 to 7-27-2020

Hi! CCN trends say 3100 in AU-50 and 6500 in MS-60. Somewhere in between I guess!

You can do a couple of things: 1). Put it on ebay as a "Buy It Now" with a price that you think is fair.... probably somewhere between AU and Unc. You can also entertain "Best Offers". Maybe somebody can come close to what you want out of it. 2). Your other option is major auctions like Heritage or Great Collections. There are advantages and disadvantages to whatever path you choose. Good luck! |

Looking at the ebay "completed" auctions or any commercial auction such as Heritage is the only way that you are going to find out what you MIGHT be able to sell it for. There are none that have sold on ebay in the last few months. If the "book" value is around $5000, you might be able to get between $2700-$3000 for it. Then ebay & paypal will take their slice, so you would clear around $2000. I think Heritage or other major coin auction where you will have an audience of higher grade collectors and dealers. I'd stay away from TCNC and their auctions. Edited by okiecoiner

Thank you for the replies, I appreciate it. And no, I wasn't trying to sell the coin here, just looking to get some advice on the value and the best means to sell it. I'm only a novice collector and I inherited this coin. Hadn't thought of HA, I'll reach out to them. |

If you inherited it, and have nothing in it other than grading fees, then keep it and enjoy it for many years to come. Once you sell it and have the money In-hand the money will go away pretty quick! |

I know, I'm a little bit torn about it. However, I would use the funds towards a cabin I'm building for the family this year. It's a little easier to enjoy a lakeside camp together than a coin!

But once that coin is gone... it's gone... The coin doesn't take up much space, so unless you are starving to death I would suggest keeping it. Bring it out at Xmas, or on the late person's birthday / anniversary of their passing etc, and reminisce. Guess it depends on how close you were to the person who left it to you. Chances are they had a lot of pride (if not money) invested in said item... Even if you don't appreciate it for what it is, perhaps one of your heirs might? Edited by Wade

@CFA1379 Choose the option that is best for you and your situation/interests. "Keep or sell" advice is primarily dictated by the financial situation of the person giving the advice. Spruett, Thank you that  Yes, for sure I'll post the info if I put it on the market. My great grandparents owned a general store in a tiny community in NFLD and this coin + an 1882 $2 piece were handed down from them. Keeping the '82 for sure for posterity, along with a bunch of other old NFLD coins, presumably from "the store" too. |
