Hello,

Wondering if anyone else has gotten into this sub-speciality. I've recently fallen down this rabbit hole in the past year. Going beyond normal varieties and getting into things like:

re-used planchets (example: CT over NJ)
Multiple strikes on colonial or early US copper
Seriously off-center pieces(I have a fugio that is kind of a ridiculous one in a million piece, image below).

Anyone else?

Thanks,

Tom

I think the Fugios are just awesome looking and the more unique, like yours, the better. Curious what the Rev looks like. I see you had it graded, curious what they graded it?...as I plan on submitting my dads...the other recent fugio post.

NGC graded it as ms-63. Reverse image below.

I purchased it slabbed from a reputable seller. Was a bit of a splurge.

I am a fan of submitted certain coins to the grading services, even if only for assisting with preservation.

Even an fair-2/ag-3 can have historical value, and not be left to be eaten by the green monster.

@halfwit, first welcome to CCF. Second, this is a very interesting Fugio--thanks for posting these pics. If you haven't already, you can use the search function to find many other threads with colonials in general, and Fugios in particular. For example, here was a "post-your-Fugio" thread from a couple years ago:

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your other coins!

I am not a Colonials collector, but I would like to own a Fugio cent one day.

Yours is excellent!

One type struck on another is of course a common early post-colonial era theme. Certain types, as I'm sure you know, are almost universally overstruck on older pieces (say, certain Vermont types on Irish ctft halfpence).

Then you can also branch out into overstrikes on pieces like Spanish 8 Reales - the two prominent examples being British Bank Of England dollars and Brazilian 960 reis.

Also, you find examples of certain counterfeits being "test struck" on early coppers... those bring very good money!

Anyway, nice piece... I've never done all that much with Fugios - how common (or not) are off-centereds in the series?
