Are there plastic storage tubes sized for Large Cents (Coronet Head and Braided Hair) or Bust Halves? I end up storing these in tubes that are too big. Maybe I just don't have the right size. I am concerned because they seem to move around too much.

So are there accurate sizes or does anyone have an idea about what to fill the extra space with in order to keep the coins from rattling around?

I would only store such coins in tubes, if they are in VF or lesser grades.

I use an old photographic film cartridge for large cents. Coin tubes do come in like 1 mm increments, there should be something that fits almost anything.

Thanks, I was actually going by what they had at my LCS. Yes, the coins that go in tubes are lower grade. I don't have so many Bust Halves for example, to fill up a whole tube. That's why I also asked about a filler. How about an old t-shirt or sock (clean, obviously). Would something like that work?

The problem is that my safe deposit box is becoming filled with slabs; man, they take up a lot of space! I don't want to crack them out, though.

Absolutely not!! Try something like this for spacers. Not the capsule just the black foam.

Funny, I've dealt with the spacer issue as I transport coins in tubes to shows and don't want them rattling. I use clean white cotton gloves for handling coins at times and use those as spacers.

What's wrong with 100% white cotton as it t-shirts or socks? Is it abrasive? How about microfiber cloths? I am looking for a diy (read "cheap") solution. Again, these aren't UNC coins. Of course, I don't want damage, but...

You know, you're right. They are circulated coins, no big deal. Go for it.
